🛸 On September 19, 1976, residents of northern Tehran began reporting a brilliant object in the night sky.
Two Imperial Iranian Air Force F-4 Phantom II fighter jets were scrambled to investigate. According to declassified reports, the aircraft experienced communications and instrumentation failures as they approached the unknown light.
Then the encounter became even stranger.
A smaller luminous object reportedly detached from the primary light and moved toward one of the jets. When the pilot prepared to fire an AIM-9 missile, the weapons-control system and communications failed. The crew escaped in a negative-G dive.
The following day, a helicopter search near a dry lake bed reportedly detected a mysterious beeper signal near a small house whose occupants remembered a loud noise and a brilliant flash during the night.
